ABOUT YOUR THERAPIST

Get to know me

I’m Selin, a Child and Adolescent Psychologist. I have done my bachelor’s degree at the University of Amsterdam and further studied Child and Adolescent Psychology Masters at Leiden University. I also have further training & experience especially with young adults, but also of all ages. After my studies, I have worked as a behavioural therapist with children on the autism spectrum, helping them build communication, social, and daily living skills and social-emotional growth.

In the clinical field, I have experience working with children, their immediate families, as well as young adult LGBTQ+ asylum seekers in one- on-one conversations addressing various issues including sexuality and identity, depression, anxiety of being in a foreign country, addiction, OCD, sexual problems, family dynamics, social relationships, academic challenges, self- confidence, insecurities, personal growth and many more topics with numerous different complex issues.

Originally from Cyprus, grown up in a bicommunal country and being based in Amsterdam for my entire adult life, I understand the struggles of living in a new country, difficulties of growing up and how life can sometimes throw things at us that makes us feel lost. In those moments, we often just need a bit of guidance and space to hear our own voice.

I find it a pity that it is somehow still to this age very difficult to receive help with such long waiting-lists and complicated procedures. But when challenges arise, that’s exactly when help should be available. Therefore in my private practice, my goal is to make therapy as accessible as possible for you by striving to be there as support, especially during times where life can feel overwhelming and too much to handle alone.

Therapeutic approaches that I draw from and am trained in (and still in training for):

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT)

Positive and Transcultural Therapy (PTT)

FAQ

Questions Answered

If you don't see your question answered here, please get in touch.

What can I expect from a session?

Each session is tailored to you. I always prioritise what you find important or would like to talk about, because I believe you know yourself best—and I’m here to support you. At the same time, I come prepared with ideas on what might be helpful to explore and which tools could support the process. Together, we decide on a direction that feels right for you.

Online or in-person therapy?

At the moment, I offer sessions online and work with clients from all over the world. Soon, I’ll also be offering face-to-face sessions in Amsterdam. If you’re already hoping for in-person sessions, we can discuss this during our intake and find an arrangement that suits your needs best.

Is there a waiting list?

Currently, there’s no waiting list. I aim to schedule the intake and first session just a few days after your initial message. My website and availability are regularly updated, so feel free to check in or reach out to find a time that works well for you.

What should I expect from my first initial session?

After your first message, I’ll send you a consent form to read through. We can go over it together and I’ll answer any questions you may have during our initial consultation. In this meeting, I’ll also do a brief intake to learn more about you or your child, and we'll explore your wishes, expectations and needs and see how best I can be of help to you during this process.

What languages do you offer therapy in?

I offer sessions in English and in Turkish.

What is your approach to therapy?

My approach is eclectic, meaning I tailor my methods to fit each individual rather than adhering to a single framework. I believe that different approaches work for different people, and even the same person may benefit from different methods at various points in their life. Together, we will assess what form of support could be most helpful for you and create a roadmap based on your needs. Above all, I offer a non-judgmental, open space where you can express yourself freely, without fear of being misunderstood or dismissed.

Are the session costs covered by insurance?

Sessions are not covered by the insurance and it is private payment.

Can a scheduled session be cancelled?

Online sessions can be canceled without a fee if you provide at least one hour’s notice before the scheduled time. In case of a no-show, the rescheduled session will need to be paid in full. Face-to-face sessions must be canceled at least 24 hours in advance; otherwise, the full session fee will be charged.

How do you ensure confidentiality?

Everything that is shared digitally and client notes are stored on an encrypted computer and password protected. GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) guidelines are followed to protect all client information.

What should I do if I have a complaint?

If you have any concerns or complaints, I encourage you to speak with me directly. I believe open communication is essential and will take your concerns seriously. If you feel the issue hasn’t been resolved after our conversation, you can submit your complaint to the independent complaints officer at Klachtenportaal Zorg, who can support you in addressing your concern. https://klachtenportaalzorg.nl/klacht-indienen/
